Combined  School Board Meeting- December 9, 2020

All School Directors were present. The public could view the meeting online or attend in person. Below is a summary of some of the items and issues that occurred at the Board meeting that may be of interest to our readers.  This is not meant to be inclusive of all that took place at the meeting.

  • Acting Superintendent Dr O’Toole spoke about the district moving to full remote next week and continuing until the Martin Luther King holiday. The administration is hopeful that more in-person instruction will occur in the near future.  Board President Chomos and Board Vice President Crowe spoke in support of the administration’s decision  to go to full remote.

  • Deputy Superintendent Dr. Friez, stated that emails going out to families will include resources for mental health services for students.  The Board student representatives have put out a survey to students  and have received over 900 responses.  They are looking into mental health and ways to support students.

  • There will be 11 new student teachers, supervised by 14 teachers in 7 buildings.

  • Public speakers addressed in-person versus remote learning.  Individuals spoke on both sides of the issue.  Other speakers spoke in support of NA for Change.
