It is part of the mission of the Bipartisan Voices to help educate the public about issues important to NA kids and communities. To that end, we will make every effort to have a Bipartisan Voices committee member attend each NA School Board meeting to take notes of the issues. Those notes will be reviewed and edited by another committee member who is of a different party affiliation thus keeping with our bipartisan mission(eg the “article” was written by a registered Democrat and reviewed/edited by a registered Republican).
School Board Meeting, Dec 4, 2019:
This was the first meeting of the new board. Newly elected (Marcie Crowe, Elizabeth Warner and Shannon Yeakel) and re-elected board members (Libby Blackburn and Kevin Mahler) were sworn in. Elections were then held for a one year term for Board President and Vice President. Marcie Crow nominated Rick McClure with no comment. Scott Russell nominated Andy Chomos stating that Mr Chomos has an ethical style with no conflicts of interest that could impact him. Mr McClure won by a 5 to 4 vote (Blackburn, Crow, Chomos, McClure and Yeakel voting for McClure; Mahler, Russell, Minton and Warner voting for Chomos). Libby Balckburn then nominated Andy Chomos for VP and he was elected unanimously. In President Rick McClure’s opening remarks he stated that he looked forward to the upcoming year with follow ups to take place on the renovations at the 2 elementary schools, implementing redistricting, being a leader in helping students to get more sleep and implementing changes to the middle school day. He also announced a new subcommittee, the School Climate and Student Wellness Committee. VP Chomos stated that it was critical to invest in infrastructure in the district.
President McClure announced his selections for the Board Committees (which meet on a rotating basis the hour before the regular School Board meetings). The Board Committee schedule and membership can be found at northallegheny.org/domain/2175.
