School Board Meeting- September 23, 2020

All School Directors were present at Central Administration. The public could view the meeting online, but not attend in person due to COVID. Below is a summary of some of the items and issues that occurred at the Board meeting that may be of interest to our readers.  This is not meant to be inclusive of all that took place at the meeting.

The Education Subcommittee meeting scheduled to meet just prior to the Board meeting was cancelled with no explanation to the public as to why it was cancelled.

Rick McClure, Board President stated that there would be a special voting meeting of the Board on Tuesday, September 29 to address potential changes to the Education Plan.  A vote was proposed to eliminate the hybrid model and return to 5 days/week in school instruction for kindergarten through fifth grade beginning October 19.  No written plan was presented to the public and no timeframe was given for when a plan would be made public.  Mr McClure stated that parents of K-5th graders will need to  re-enroll their children in the 5 day/week or cyber school option.  The proposed change would take place 7 weeks into the first 9 week grading period.  This proposed change does not affect students in grades 6 through 12.    Kevin Mahler stated that with a change to 5 days/week in school instruction for K-5th graders, the district would no longer be following the state and county health and safety standards and guidelines.  He then asked what safety guidelines the district would be following. No guidelines were discussed in response to Kevin Mahler’s question.

Assistant Superintendent Friez spoke about increasing the number of spectators at Football, Volleyball and Water Polo games.

No item voting occurred at this meeting.
